Contractor admits to fraud and aggravated assault

On April 14, 2014, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced that the principal of a Pennsylvania construction company admitted his role in an employee kickback scheme that occurred during a reconstruction project at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, Burlington County, N.J.

U.S. Attorney Fishman credited special agents of the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, under the direction of Special Agent Seth Neville, detachment commander, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst as well as others in this joint investigation.

Agent's quick actions save Airman trying to commit suicide

A 22-year-old female, active-duty Senior Airman recently assigned (from the 381st Intelligence Squadron, Elmendorf AFB, Alaska) to the 432nd Operations Support Squadron, was transported Monday to Spring Mountain Treatment Facility, Las Vegas, for attempting suicide Sunday.

While in treatment at Nellis Mental Health, the member revealed that she attempted to take her life the day prior. It is unknown at this time if alcohol was a factor. The member is single with no dependents.

The Air Force Office of Special Investigations plays a vital role in the U.S. Air Force. There are few jobs like that of an AFOSI agent. The special investigative teams have to ensure that they are prepared for any scenario ahead, as they face different situations each day.

The AFOSI Detachment 327 at Little Rock Air Force Base is no exception. In 2013 alone, the team opened 46 cases in the state.

Two business owners indicted in alleged wire Ffraud conspiracy

A federal grand jury has indicted Yogesh K. Patel, age 47, of Gaithersburg, Maryland, and Wesley Burnett, age 54, of Hermosa Beach, California, for conspiracy to commit wire fraud in connection with a scheme to fraudulently obtain more than $1.8 million in federal government contracts through the use of the Small Business Administration's 8(a) program, designed to assist disadvantaged businesses.

The indictment was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein; Small Business Administration (SBA) Inspector General Peggy E. Gustafson; Brigadier General Kevin J. Jacobsen, Commander Air Force Office of Special Investigations; and Mary L. Kendall, Deputy Inspector General, Department of the Interior.

17th AFOSI commander assumes command

Brigadier General Keith M. Givens officially took command of the Air Force Office of Special Investigations during a change of command ceremony held at Quantico Marine Corps Base, Va., May 7, in the Clubs at Quantico. The ceremony was hosted by the Inspector General of the Air Force, Lieutenant General Stephen P. Mueller.

Brig. Gen. Givens graduated from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. He entered the Air Force in 1986 as a distinguished graduate of the Air Force ROTC program. He has spent the majority of his career as an AFOSI special agent where he has conducted and supervised felony-level criminal, fraud, and counterintelligence investigations and operations. He has commanded at the detachment, squadron and wing levels. His assignments have included four overseas postings.

AFOSI supports 2nd annual joint Police Week wreath-laying ceremony at Russell-Knox Building

Brig. Gen. Keith M. Givens, AFOSI commander and personnel from the Air Force Office of Special Investigations attended a joint Police Week wreath-laying ceremony in conjunction with agency counterparts here at the Russell-Knox Building May 13.

The annual event was the second one to be held at the RKB, and was attended by nearly 300 people, including family members of AFOSI's fallen. This year the event was hosted by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.

Leadership representatives from AFOSI, NCIS, the Defense Security Service and the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command were on hand to place the memorial wreaths at the base of the flag poles in front of the RKB.

California subcontractor pleads guilty to fraud involving Boeing contracts

William Boozer, a Boeing subcontractor, pled guilty to wire fraud in connection with a bribery/kickback scheme involving Boeing military aircraft parts during November 2009 through February 2013.

Globe Dynamics International Inc., Santa Ana, California, is a leader in producing small to large, close tolerance precision machined parts and the assembly of complex components. Globe Dynamics was a subcontractor to Boeing on numerous United States government contracts. William Boozer, owner and operator of Globe Dynamics, directed the day-to-day operations of the company, including the submission of contract bids.

Shaw Air Force Base warrior shoots for gold

Warriors emerge from all different shapes and sizes. For wounded warriors, the U.S. Air Force gives the opportunity for them to represent the Air Force in the multi-service Warrior Games.

U.S. Air Force Special Agent Robert Davis, Office of Special Investigations Detachment 212 commander, and U.S. Air Force retired Maj. Jen Kyseth, have the opportunity to represent the Air Force during this year's Warrior Games in Colorado Spring, Colo., Kyseth as a participant and Davis as a coach.

OSI members march in 2014 Memorial Day Parade

Four personnel from Headquarters, Air Force Office of Special Investigations, represented OSI in a 140-person Air Force formation that marched in the 10th National Memorial Day Parade, Washington, D.C., May 26.

Master Sergeant Juan Arispe, Technical Sergeant Kelly Lazenby, Senior Airmen Patrick Smith and Latesha Oliver took part in the day's activities.

"It was truly our honor to march in tribute to our fallen and to all those that have served and continue to serve," MSgt. Arispe said.

Crash victim reunited with Good Samaritans who helped save his life

A motorcycle crash victim who lost his leg in a collision in Prattville has been searching for two people who stayed by his side after the crash.
He credits them with saving his life but he did not know their names or how to go about thanking them so he reached out to WSFA in the hopes of connecting with them to express his appreciation.

The accident happened on May 19 at 8 p. m.,. on East Main Street in Prattville, almost directly in front of the Zaxby's and Bruster's. David Tesino was on his motorcycle and collided with the front of a passenger car.

What is LEOSA? The Law Enforcement Officer Safety Act of 2004. This law was passed to allow Qualified Law Enforcement Officers (QLEO) and Qualified Retired Law Enforcement Officers (QRLEO) to carry concealed firearms in any jurisdiction in the United States, with certain exceptions.

Wright-Patterson AFB Airmen deliver timely assistance to drivers after serious car crash

Special Agent Brad Byington, Air Force Office of Special Investigations, 1 Field Investigations Region was at the right place at the right time during a recent drive to work.

During his commute, Byington witnessed a car crash in which a small vehicle was "t-boned" by a large SUV traveling 60 mph.

Acting quickly, Byington raced to the driver of the smaller vehicle assessed her injuries and proceeded to organize the emergency response to the accident.

"I'm talking to the driver, I could tell that she was in poor condition," said Byington. "She seemed out of it, she couldn't put a sentence together, she had blood on her arms, legs and face. In addition, the engine was in the dashboard, where the radio should be. The gas petal was depressed; the tires were spinning and there was a fire under the engine."
